Truck Repair: Squeaky belt, groove belts, belt dressing

Question
02 Ford Ranger with a sqeaky belt.  I have tried belt dressing, and it was not much help.  Does the belt need to be tightened?  Is the belt difficult to tighten?

Answer
most multi-groove belts have auto tensioners on them and cannot be tightened. a squeeky multi-grove belt usually means the little " V "s are worn out and the pulley is bottoming out on the pulley. you most likely need a new belt. don't over look the possibility of a component siezing like the alternator or air pump if equipped. check these when replacing the belt.   hope i could help.
