Truck Repair: ford steering problem, brake rotor, ford steering

Question
My ford 2000 f350 has started handling really bad. NOT all the time but sometimes pulling badly to the right, hit brakes jumps to the left, noticable vibration in the steering wheel. A good local shop that I use has replaced the ball joints, shocks, tires, and alignment. But it still does it! Not all the time and I can't "make" it do it. Of course when the shop has it it works fine. Any ideas? Thanks, jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff,
Next time, reach down and carefully feel the right hub. I bet your right brake rotor is not releasing, and it will be very hot. It will pull to the right while driving, but then jerk left when brakes are applied, due to the hot rotor and pads.
If you jack it up, will have difficulty rotating the tire.
On Chevys, this is caused by the hose deteriorating inside, and not letting the fluid back.
But in the Fords I have found this in, the piston just too tight in the caliper bore.
I actually have taken them apart, polished everything up, and reassembled, and it worked fine.
Good luck,
Van
