Vintage Cars: vin# on 1948 Packard, fire wall, xxxxxx

Question
I have a 1948 Packard convertible. The title has a # that reads  G 401634. Is this a valid Packard # ?
The title has a place for a second # but was left blank.
I have looked for the title # but can't find it.  The large # embossed on the passenger side of the fire wall reads
< 739360 > but is not on the title.  The Plate screwed to the fire wall in front of the driver is missing.

Thanks for any help.  Ron

Answer
The VIN would have 9 numbers I believe
Many states at that time registered a vehicle by the motor number which in your car would be G-2XXXXX or G-XXXXXX . That will be stamped on a smoothed area on the drivers side of engine just below the head/block parting line. Other states used the vehicle number.
