Vintage Cars: 1979 MGB Turn Signal, turn signal switch, flasher units

Question
I have a 1979 MGB. Both turn signals quit working but the 4 way flashers work. I checked the fuse and it is good. Could it be the turn signal flasher?? I can't seem to find one online or just where it is in the car itself. Please help!!

Answer
It's likely the turn-signal flasher unit, since the lamps obviously work. (The turn signals and 4-way functions work off different flasher units.) You can find a replacement at

It's item 2. But I can't remember where to find it in the car. The likeliest mounting places are the lefthand bulkhead or inner left fender, but I don't know.

The other possible problem area is the flasher switch on the column: if it has no power getting to it, neither side will flash. For the price, I would replace the flasher unit anyway, and cross your fingers that it solves the problem. If it doesn't, turn switches are more expensive and awkward to install: item 26 at

You might also suspect the multipin connector on the end of the turn signal switch cable (see Moss page for picture). If you can easily get to it, disconnect, reconnect, and waggle it.

Good luck!
