Vintage Cars: /56 chev belair, chev belair, bolt holes

/56 chev.belair original 6 cyl. eng.  putting a 350 in it. Bell housing bolt pattern on 6 cyl. being different than on 8 cyl. We need a bell housing. What years of cars besides 55/57 v/8's could we use a bell housing from? Any other changes that need to be made in this exchange of engines??

not my area of experience. i'm a limey!   but.. if the bell housing is the same size cant you have bolt holes drilled and threaded? so long as theres enough metal to work with it should work out fine. an engineering works should drill and tap a dozen holes in the right place for a fairly modest fee.
