Vintage Cars: 1979 VW Convertible Bug/Beetle, vintage vws, squeaking brakes

Question

a pic of the VW
Dear Christian,

I am trying to help an older lady friend (she is 68, I am 39). She has decided to part with her 1979 Convertible VW Bug. She has some upcoming bills (health etc) and is going to need the money.

I know NOTHING about cars, even less about vintage VWs. (I was a fan of the Jetta GLIs and owned 3, but am now in a Ford SUV). I digress.

She is the original owner. It has always been garaged. It has 34,000 miles on in. I can send you pictures. It looks 'great' to me. I am going to try to take it for a spin later today (again, I know nothing, so not sure if this will help).

I want to make sure she gets a fair price. I want to make sure we are asking a fair price. She threw out the number of $10,000 (USD). I surfed around on the internet and the price for this year is all over the place (I'm sure because of the engines condition of the various cars).

Please help.

Answer
A few extra photos to diano455@yahoo.co.uk would be very useful.

This vehicle will only appreciate in value, seeing it looks to be in pristine condition $10,000 is not a "high" price, it's a pretty low price if the vehicle is in concourse or near-concourse condition -

Is it mechanically sound - quiet gearbox, smooth operation of clutch, no squeaking brakes, rattling interior? any scratches dings or dents?
All accessories working flawlessly etc -
