Vintage Cars: 1984 MB 380SL Radio A/C cover, climate control unit, hot glue

Question
QUESTION: My 1984 380 Sl has a wood cover over the AC/controls and Radio area.  It came loose and fell out.  I noticed that the back had 2 small squares where wood blocks attached to the radio? The A/C controls were not fastened to anything.  I do not see and fasteners or sites to fasten this wood-  What happened? can it be fixed?  what is the terminology and approximate cost, if you know   Thank you.

ANSWER: the AC unit is held in by itself and does not have an attachment to the cover or wood. The wood is a veneer that is glued in place, your little blocks line it up on the backing. Best best is hot glue, it should hold for you, other stronger glues are available but I would start with the easiest first - hot glue, you can do it yourself

QUESTION: THERE IS NOTING THAT HOLDS THE CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT IN PLACE.  THAT IS WHAT STUMPED ME.  IF A GLUE THE WOOD TABS BACK TO. I THINK THE RADIO MOUNT WHAT KEEPS THE A/C CONTROLS FROM MOVING IN WHEN YOU PUSH THE BUTTONS FOR AC?

Answer
the ACC unit slides into a bracket of sorts and has two screws , one in each side that glides it and locks it into place. You may also have a center brace. You may need to remove the center cover completely to see how it is attached , perhaps those mounting screws came loose and that is the reason the wood failed
