Vintage Cars: idle problem may be engine computer, throttle position sensor, chevron gas

Question
QUESTION: have had all of the rear end fuel system of 1981 SL380 overhauled, however the car now high revs at idle and the economy gauge in dash shows acceleration advance at idle.

ANSWER: Computer does not control idle, only mixture
sounds like a vacuum leak or throttle position sensor. Could also be fuel regualtor if you are pushing more gas.  Cold start vavle  I need a little more detail, mileage , what was done, how did it operate previously , just hot or when cold too

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Ran just fine before . "Smoke test" revealed Balance tubes leaking (replaced) and wire and computer issue (repaired) Now running very near normal.  Advised to go back to High Test Chevron gas.

Answer
glad to hear, as I indicated you had a vacuum leak and I suspect loose connection at ECU
I run mine fine on mid grade, if you are not getting ping you are OK
i would suggest fuel with techtron  or use it as an additive, as it keeps injectors clean
