Vintage Cars: 1976 450SL Electrical, wattage bulb, brown wires

Question
QUESTION: Recently I tried to lower my window and found neither window switch worked, additionally my turn signals and brake lights are also inoperative. Seems they must be somehow related...flasher/turn signal relay?

ANSWER: I would suspect a short and or fuse blown, check the panel under the footwell in the passengers side , should  see a little door, fuses behind it.  Check fuses fist, if they are OK psot back and we can trace a short.
Good Luck

QUESTION:
thanks, all fuses look intact, and the flashers work when it is depressed, inside arrows and all 4 outside lights. I recently replaced a turn signal bulb, but have since replaced it again with the recommended wattage bulb. Do you not think the flasher relay could be causing this. Additionally, are the flasher and turn signals both on the same relay?

Answer
the warning system is usually on a fuse by itself as is the window motors, and they are not the same.  The  tail lights are usually with the reverse light.  I not have the 76 book handy but I do know they are diffrent fuses. If the tail lights flash with hazards the relay is probably OK. Fuses can be deceptive, pull them out ot inspect, sometimes the ends corrode.  If you have a tester you can trace current across polls without taking them out.
I suspect short in brake light housing.  Trace your last steps in your last fiddling and I bet you will find the issue.  Look for the brown wires - they are the ground in Mercedes
Let me know what you find, in the meantime I will tryand locate my 76 manual
