Vintage Cars: sluggish speedometer, p1800, car magazine

Greetings Ron,
This morning the speedometer didn't respond,then it started to crawl up in an erratic choppy fashion and got stuck there.The speed was inaccurate-too low .After a few hours it did this again.The odometer is working fine so I'm assumung the cable is ok. Is there any lube point or other issue or is it history?Any input will be greatly apreciated(as always)

thought of you .  there is awesome article on the P1800 in the March 2008 Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car magazine.  No wonder you like that car so much.  If you cant find it I would be glad to send you a photocopy
