Vintage Cars: 1966 Cadillac Calais, hemmings motor news, ebay motors

Question
My 1966 Cadillac Calais just blew an engine.  I want to sell it as is, and I am wondering what a fair value would be for it.  I am not into gougeing, just want to get some money out of it.  It's in perfect condition, never been hit.  The inside was bad, and I restored it, artwise.  It's got custom seat covers upholstered in Mexico, made out of Turkish Rug Tapestrys.  Thank you so much for this information.  KATE PEARSON

Answer
Tough one to value, for several reasons.  First, it's not 100% original because of the interior; originality is very important to Cadillac collectors.  (Not to mention that the motor is toast.)  Second, it's a Calais, the "price leader" line for Cadillac, with only sedan and 2 & 4-door hardtop models to offer (no convertible).  Third, although a fair number of these were built ('66 was a record-breaking year for Caddy), few were taken care of or saved.  As a result, not enough change hands to get an accurate feel for what the market value might be.  My advice is to keep an eye on both eBay Motors and Hemmings Motor News auctions and classifieds and see what people are asking there.
