Vintage Cars: 1972 Ranchero GT, car price guides, ranchero gt

Question
I have recently obtained a 1972 Ranchero GT.I checked all build plate info to the car,and is an original N code(429) GT,with original drivetrain( engine, tranny rebuilt, bolt on performance engine equipment, internals appear to be stock config, rear ratio changed but have the original ring & pinion, it is the factory 9" trac loc.Original engine bolt ons are gone( intake, carb, exhaust, distributor, etc).Has sat for 5 years, and used very little in the past 10( documented).Failed attempt at a drag vehicle to m y eyes. Runs very strong, drives well. But.... the body is trashed. Rust, dents, missing chrome, rat nests, interior shot ( suprisingly the floors, rockers, and bed are rust free).Obvious major collision repair using rusty metal.Marti report ( whatever that company is) told me it is 1 of 841 big block GT's that year.I don't know if that is correct. Would you have any ballpark idea of a value? Think body condition #6( but drives well), with engine, trans, rear, complete cooling and brake systems overhauled. Also suspension work done. It's a 1 year only oddball front clip, I might just strip it and use the goods in something else if it is not that desirable.Sorry for the long message. Thank You. Robert

Answer
NADA old car price guides say it could be worth something north of $20,000 if in like new condition.  Under $6000 in driveable condition but needing reconditioning, nothing major.  Your vehicle seems something well below that even is still driveable, so the value could be into the $3000 range or less.

But to someone really wanting a fairly rare "city" pickup truck, it could be worth more.  You are right, it sounds like it could be the basis for making two trucks into one.  Body panels may be very hard to find.
