Vintage Cars: 1964 GTO window trim, metal spring, window trim

Question
Hello,
I wish to remove the front and rear windshields on my '64 GTO. How do you remove the metal trim? I understand there are metal spring devices holding the trim on? Where can I find a diagram related to the trim removal? Thanks.

Answer
I found a website that I think will tell you what you want:

http://buickperformance.com/glassremove.htm

But take this bit of advice from someone that has been there.

IF your glass is good now, then I recommend you pay a good local glass company to come out and remove the windshield.  Chances are they can remove the trim and the glass in about 1/2 an hour without damage, then you can clean things up and call them back to install everything when you are ready.

I did this with a 67 Chevy that we re-did for my son.  The back glass was huge (fastback style) and I didn't want to buy a new one.  It paid to have a trusted local company come out and take the trim off and remove the glass.  We cleaned eveything up and when the car was painted and ready, they came back and put things back together.

The only thing to watch out for is it is SO easy to dent the stainless trim for cars of this era.  If the company you call is good (ask for someone familiar with 60's cars) they will do it better than you probably can, but you can have them place the glass back in and you can put the trim on if you wish.
