Vintage Cars: 67 Mustang Convert, earth google, old cars price guide

Question
I'm looking @ a 1967 Mustang Convertible, it has been in a neighbors garage for 7 years that I know of.  Today when I had a chance to look at it I could not find and plates with Vin #.  It has either a 289 or 390 4 speed. No power top or steering and drum breaks.  The engine is very dirty and the oil is black.  The body looks OK and the paint is good  but the trunk pops when opening. Just how would I come up with a fair offer for my neighbor and myself.

Answer
There really is no way to give a halfway decent value appraisal of a car over the mail, even with a LOT of good info.

Mustangs are some of the most documented cars on earth.  Google Mustang VIN numbers and I am sure you will come up with many sites that can help you with an ID.  There is a huge difference between a 289 and a 390, so that should not be hard.

Buy a copy of Old Cars Price Guide and that will give you a good idea of basic values.

Here is a site to start with though:
