Vintage Cars: 1949 Buick Super Sedanette, vintage car club, local vintage car club

Question
I am thinking of purchasing a 1949 Buick Super Sedanette, but when I went to finalize the deal I could not locate a VIN.  I know there should be a VIN tag on the driver's door post but there is no longer a tag.  The engine has been switched out for a 350 Chevy.  Anyway, the Title has a VIN and I can not find a VIN anywhere on this car.  This car was last registered out of state so DMV says they will not register with out a tag VIN that matches the Title.  If you know where else on the car this VIN may be located or any advise at all, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Answer
on firewall, perhpas  painted over ?  Many of these years had "plates" so it may have been removed in the restoration.  Somtimes they are stamped on the frame usually in the engine bay area. You should be able to research the VIN through Buick and then get some information that would substanciate that it is the car you have. Kinda going at it backwards.  Surely the DMV has run into this before.
Is there a local vintage car club that can give you some tips?
Sorry I can't be more specific, good luck and let me know how things work out
