Vintage Cars: seat belts for 73 Ford LTD, shoulder belts, upholstery shop

Question
Hello I am having a rough time getting seat belts for a 73 Ford LTD.  Do you know if any other Fords or other models used this temporary style of a buckle which they used the beginning of 73 --before they changed it to a more durable one?  Lately I have had an upholstery shop remove the female end buckles from the back seat and sew them on the front to make do, but I am just about to run out of buckles now.  Is there anyplace where I can get these old seatbelts or just the female buckle ends  -- even if it is another style / model?

Answer
First, I don't know of any particular sources for this part, but I think I understand your frustration, as I'm one of the few people that recall this seat belt design.  Didn't it start out as Ford's "uni-buckle" setup, where the shoulder belt blade had a "bolt" that slipped into the seat belt tongue?  All other US-built, 1969-1973 cars had 2 separate seat and shoulder belts, which I found extremely uncomfortable and difficult to use.  You REALLY had to care about safety to wear those cumbersome belts!  I thought Ford's system was much better, but then they all got replaced in '74 when the government mandated the Volvo-style 3-point harness, together with the starter interlock (remember that 1-year debacle?).

Regardless, good luck in tracking down the part- all I can suggest is eBay and constant surfing of the Internet.  '73 LTDs were well-made, extremely durable cars, and deserve to be preserved for the future.  Handsome cars, too- much better-looking than the '73 full-size Chevys and Plymouths, or the '72 LTDs.
