Vintage Cars: 1954 Buick Roadmaster 322 V8 Rod Bolts, 1954 buick roadmaster, gm v8s

Question
Thanks Jeff, I found a site under Buicks.net that says all Nailheads have some common parts, one of which are the rod bolts. I can find bolts for the larger nailheads pretty easily.  I am just looking to confirm that this is true.

Thanks,
Denny

-----Question-----
Jeff,
I am rebuilding a 1954 Buick Roadmaster 322 V8 and am having a hard time finding rod bolts.  Can I interchange with a different engine to find a bolt that will work.

Thanks in advance,
Denny
-----Answer-----
I doubt it- the "nailhead" Buick V8 is a rather unique engine; I perosonally know of no other engine it shares parts with. Check out Hemmings Motor News (www.hemmings.com), they have a huge list of parts vendors in their ads, many devoted to just Buick parts.  Good luck!

Answer
We're getting a little outside my area of expertise, but I think you're on the right track. As the nailhead got larger (eventually maxing out at 425 cid), it's the bore and stroke increases that caused it, so I would THINK that the rod bolts could stay the same. When you asked about other engines that share parts, I thought you were referring to other GM V8s like Chevy, Cadillac, etc... Although GM now has 'corporate' engines they interchange among vehicles and divisions, that certainly wasn't the case in the 50's.
