Vintage Cars: Looking for classic car parts., hemmings motor news, classic car parts

Question
I am looking for body parts for a 1963 Chevy Bonneville.  I have been told that they are not sold anymore.  Do you know of a place where I can find body parts?

Answer
It's true that GM no longer manufactures body parts for 40-plus-year-old vehicles, but that doesn't mean they aren't necessarily available.  If you had something as popular as a Mustang, then you could actually buy a brand-new fender, hood or trunk (made by an after-market company, not Ford).  You need to pick up a copy of Hemmings Motor News (available at any good bookstore or newsstand) and search the "Parts For Sale" classified ads in the Pontiac section.  You might luck out and find a company making some of the parts, but your best bet is a "used parts specialist" (you know, a junkyard) that has what you need.  There's nothing wrong in buying from a junkyard, especially those located in the arid Southwest part of our country.  You might find fenders and doors with some surface rust, but that thick sheet metal from the early 60's holds up well in Arizona, New Mexico and the desert regions of California.  Good luck!
