Vintage Cars: Title replacement, impala ss, 66 impala

Question
I have a 1966 impala SS i intend to restore it to original but have no title and do not know who the original owner is my question is how do i go about getting a new title for this car.

Answer
Your state motor-vehicle department should be able to do a title search for you, which would show the last owner of record.  I'm assuming that you've never had a title to this car; if you did, it shouldn't be a problem to get it replaced if you are the last owner of record.  Some states, like NY, didn't start issuing titles until the 1970's, so that may pose a problem.  If you happen to live in NY, then your registration is also your title for any car built prior to 1973.  Check with your state's motor-vehicle department for more info.  Regardless, a '66 Impala SS is well worth preserving and keeping.  It's a rare example of the second year of a body style that turned out looking better than the first.  The '65 is nice, but the '66 is one of the best-looking Chevys ever built, IMHO.
