Vintage Cars: 71 vw alternator light, ford problems, repair questions

Hi my alternator light comes on dimly when more power is required. FOR INSTANCE,when the lights are on and you turn on the wipers and or anything else, the light gets brighter.PROBLEM?

I'm not a mechanic, so I really shouldn't be answering repair questions.  But- based on my limited knowlege, two things first come to mind: loose belt and/or pulley, or a faulty voltage regulator.  Having said that, you really should surf the web and find a website with forums that answers such questions on VWs.  Although it's a site devoted mostly to Ford problems, you might want to post this in the General Repair forum on the following website:

Those guys are pretty good at almost anything, ans someone there just might take a crack at your problem.
