Does Dual Exhaust Save Fuel?

Many consumers are searching for methods of energy conservation and fuel economy. Through de-pressurizing aspects of exhaust emission, a dual exhaust may end up saving you money and easing the current strain on your gas card.

Fuel Economy

  • In most cases, a dual exhaust will help your overall fuel economy. With a standard exhaust, your engine burns extra fuel just to expel the exhaust itself. With a dual exhaust, there is more space or "breathing room" involved, allowing less of this exhaust to build up and consume that fuel.

Weight Considerations

  • Dual exhaust is often an after-market option. While it is true that it will add a certain amount of weight to the frame of the car, fuel expenditures due to this weight are negated by the added horsepower the dual exhaust will add to your vehicle.

Drawbacks

  • The cons related to a dual exhaust are largely aesthetic. The clamps that you use to affix them to the vehicle may be be out in the open, affecting the look of the car. Other than that, it does not require a lot of skill, expertise or experience to get the exhaust onto your vehicle. This limits the money spent on professional installation if you or someone you know can get the job done without them.
