The Toyota Rav4 is considered a compact crossover sport utility vehicle, or SUV. The first model was made in 1996. Each year, Toyota develops new technologies and features it can add to the latest models. Many models now come with a Smart Key system, which basically means you don't need to physically put a key in the ignition to start the vehicle. In order to turn it on, you will need to be carrying the Smart Key fob, either in a pocket or in a purse. Without it, you will not able to start the Rav4. Before you do start the vehicle, make sure it is in park.
Sit in driver's seat and press down on the brake pedal. The pedal must be pushed in before the Rav4 can or will start.
Press the round green "Engine Start Stop" button on the dashboard. The radio will be the first thing that turns on.
Hold down the "Engine Start Stop" button to start the engine.
