How to Replace the Rotors on a Buick Rendezvous

Replacing the brake rotors on your Buick Rendezvous is something you would usually do when you change the brake pads. There may be times, though, when you need to change the rotors separately, but this is less common. Each wheel will take you about 30 minutes to do, and there are no special tools required. The repair is within the ability of most weekend mechanics, eliminating the need for taking the Buick to a repair shop and spending money on labor charges.

Things You'll Need

  • Automobile jack
  • Wheel chocks
  • Jack stand
  • Lug wrench
  • Wire ties
  • Pliers
  • Socket set
  • Park the Buick on a level, paved surface. Raise the car with an automobile jack then place a jack stand under the Buick and raise it to the frame. Remove the lug nuts from the wheel with a lug wrench then pull the wheel off the car.

  • Loosen the bolts on the brake calipers with a socket and ratchet. Pull the caliper from the wheel assembly and secure it to the strut with a wire tie. Remove the rotor from the wheel assembly.

  • Install the new rotor onto the wheel assembly. Position the brake caliper onto the mounting bracket and tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Remount the wheel on the car and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.

  • Remove the jack stand from under the Buick and lower the car to the ground with the jack. Repeat the process for the other wheel.
