Why Won't the Sunroof on My Mitsubishi Close?

A sunroof that doesn't open or close can be caused by three main issues. Some of them are easy to fix and require nothing more than a screwdriver; others require detailed knowledge of the car's wiring system.

Fuse

  • In Mitsubishi cars, the sunroof has its own fuse. The fuse is a safety precaution in case of an electrical surge. If a fuse is burned out, the electrical component that it is associated with it ceases working. The fuse box is located in the engine bay.

Loose Motor

  • Mitsubishi uses a small electrical motor held by two bolts to retract and close the sunroof. Occasionally, the bolts come loose and the motor can not apply enough force to operate the sunroof. Removing the panel behind the sunroof will expose the motor and allow the bolts to be tightened.

Wiring

  • The wires attached to the button that operates the sunroof can sometimes become damaged or disconnected. The damage can be located anywhere from the attachment point of the button all the way to the central wiring harness.
