The MAF (mass-airflow sensor) on your Pontiac Grand Prix regulates the fuel-to-air ratio. This helps your Grand Prix run efficiently; it also helps regulate the idle speed. Locating the MAF sensor is simple. It's easily visible within the engine compartment. It's not necessary to use tools or remove components to locate the MAF sensor. If you need to change the MAF sensor, simply unplug it and connect the new sensor. The location is the same on all Grand Prix models, whether equipped with the 3.1L or 3.8L engine.
Shut the engine down and let it cool off for about 10 minutes. Pull the interior hood release, and then lift and prop the hood.
Locate the air-cleaner assembly. This assembly holds the engine-air filter. It is located in the front corner of the engine compartment, on the driver's side.
Inspect the air-intake hose attached to the air-cleaner assembly. The MAF sensor is integrated into the air hose. It is a short section of the hose with a small electrical plug attached to it.
