Where Is the EVAP Purge Control Solenoid in a 2003 Honda Civic?

First manufactured in 1973, the Honda Civic quickly became one of top-selling cars in the U.S. auto market. Owners have been pleased with its excellent fuel mileage, low-cost maintenance and reliability. Now in its ninth generation, growing in size and comfort over its 41-year history, the Civic is still one of the most popular cars on the market today.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean rags
  • Sockets
  • Ratchet
  • Open the hood. Locate the EVAP purge control solenoid -- or as they call it in the service manual, EVAP purge control valve -- mounted on top of the throttle body.

  • Disconnect the wire connector from the purge valve by pushing in on the clip while pulling on the connector. Twist it side to side to loosen it, then disconnect the two vacuum hoses. Remove the two mounting bolts with a ratchet and socket.

  • Install the replacement purge valve and snug the bolts. Connect the two vacuum hoses. Connect the wire connector to the valve. You should hear the retaining clip snap in place.
