The Hyundai Sonata debuted in the 1993 model year as a wallet-friendly competitor to the likes of the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Maxima. By the 2007 model year, the Sonata had become a far more refined vehicle than its original rendition, as it came standard with high-end features such as power windows, power door locks and power mirrors. When removing a door panel on the 2007 Sonata, you must unplug these features' wiring harnesses prior to removing the panel.
Pry the sail panel, the triangular panel above the front part of the door panel, with a flat-head screwdriver to unfasten it. Pull the sail panel away from the door and unplug its wiring harness, if applicable.
Remove the screw from the inside door handle bezel, the trim behind the inside door handle, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the inner door handle outward and slide the bezel from the handle.
Unfasten the six door panel screws – one on the top, rear corner; two on the bottom; two on the top, front corner; and one inside the pull cup – using a Phillips screwdriver.
Pry around the perimeter of the door panel with a trim stick to disengage the panel's six retaining clips, then remove the door panel from the door far enough to access the wiring harnesses for the power accessories.
Unplug the wiring harnesses for the power windows, power mirror, courtesy lamp and trunk release. Remove the door panel from the vehicle.
Hold the door panel close enough to the door to reconnect the power accessories, then connect the power accessory wiring harnesses to their respective receptacles on the door panel.
Align the retaining clips on the rear of the door panel with the holes in the door and lightly strike around the perimeter of the door panel with the palm of your hand to engage the retaining clips. Tighten the six door panel-retaining screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
Pull the inside door handle outward and slide the inside door handle bezel over the door handle and into its cutout in the door panel. Tighten the bezel’s retaining screw with a Phillips screwdriver.
Plug the wiring harness into its receptacle on the sail panel, if applicable. Align the retaining clips on the rear of the sail panel with the holes in the door panel and press the sail panel onto the door to engage the retaining clips.
Unfasten the screw securing the inside door handle bezel using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the door handle outward and slide the bezel off the door handle.
Remove the four screws securing the door panel to the door – one in the top, front corner; one in the top, rear corner; one on the bottom front corner; and one in the pull cup – using a Phillips screwdriver.
Pry around the perimeter of the door panel with a trim stick to disengage its seven retaining clips and pull the panel away from the door just enough to access the wiring harness for the power window.
Unplug the power window wiring harness and remove the door panel.
Hold the door panel close enough to the door to reconnect the power window wiring harness to its receptacle on the power window switch. Align the clips on the rear of the door panel with the holes in the door panel and strike around the perimeter of the panel with your hand to engage the clips.
Tighten the four screws with a Phillips screwdriver to secure the door panel.
Pull the inside door handle outward and slide the door handle bezel back into its bed in the door panel. Tighten the bezel’s retaining screw with a Phillips screwdriver.
