How to Fix the Heater Blower Motor in a 1999 Chrysler Concorde

In the early 1990s, Chrysler was in desperate need of an overhaul, as it was slowly falling behind the competition. The Concorde spearheaded Chrysler’s all-new lineup as the company’s flagship sedan, replacing the Fifth Avenue. The 1999 Concorde, just a year off a complete redesign, came standard with air conditioning and had an optional automatic climate control system available. When the blower motor assembly, which includes the motor and fan, fails, it is easier and more cost-effective to simply replace the entire unit than to try to repair the failed unit.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet
  • Socket set
  • Adjust the passenger’s seat as far back as it will go. Look under the dashboard and find the silencer duct panel, the plastic panel with a duct formed in it. Remove the screw securing the silencer duct to the dashboard, using a ratchet and socket.

  • Pull down on the silencer duct slightly, then pull it toward the passenger’s side of the vehicle to disengage it from the Concorde’s other ductwork.

  • Lift up on the locking tab on the wiring harness connecting the blower motor’s wiring to the blower motor resistor and unplug the wiring harness.

  • Squeeze the rubber grommet on the blower motor’s wiring and press the grommet through the hole in the blower motor’s housing cover. Guide the remainder of the blower motor’s wiring through this hole.

  • Remove the screws securing the blower motor housing cover, using a ratchet and socket, and pull the cover down, exposing the blower motor.

  • Unfasten the screws securing the blower motor to the heating and air-conditioning box, using a ratchet and socket, and lower the blower motor from the heating and air-conditioning box.

  • Guide the new blower motor into the heating and air-conditioning box and tighten its screws with a ratchet and socket.

  • Insert the blower motor's wiring through the hole in the blower motor housing cover. Squeeze the rubber grommet on the wiring and guide it through the same hole the wiring went through. Press the grommet onto the outer part of the blower motor housing cover until it seats into place.

  • Align the screw holes on the blower motor housing cover with those on the blower motor housing and tighten the cover’s screws with a ratchet and socket.

  • Plug the blower motor’s wiring harness into the receptacle on the blower motor resistor.

  • Lift the silencer duct panel back under the dashboard, guiding the duct portion of the panel into the ductwork in the center of the dashboard, then into the ductwork on the passenger’s side of the dashboard. Tighten the silencer duct panel’s retaining screw with a ratchet and socket.
