How to Remove the Tail Lights in a 2010 Honda Accord

In the 1976 model year, Honda added a second car to its repertoire, the Accord. The Accord gave Honda a presence in the mid-sized automobile field, as the Civic had the compact car realm secured. The 2010 model year marked the year the Accord added an interesting contender to its line-up: the Accord Crosstour, a five-door hatchback. In addition to the Crosstour, the 2010 accord also came in a coupe and sedan. All three different body styles of the Accord had different taillight assembly layouts; however, the only one that required a different process to remove the taillights was the Crosstour.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • 7443 light bulb
  • Clean, lint-free cloth

Accord Sedan and Coupe Taillight Replacement

  • Open the trunk and locate the fastener(s) securing the carpeting behind the taillight assembly -- two-door Accords have two fasteners and four-door models have only one fastener. Remove the plastic screw in the center of each fastener, using a flat-head screwdriver, to disengage it.

  • Pull the carpet downward, exposing the rear of the taillight assembly and the three bulb sockets.

  • Grab the taillight socket and twist it counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the taillight socket and bulb from the taillight assembly.

  • Pull the taillight from the taillight socket with a slight wiggling motion. Grab a new 7443 bulb, using a clean, lint-free cloth and press it into the socket. Never touch the bulb with your bare hands, as the oils from your hands may cause premature bulb failure.

  • Insert the bulb and socket back into the taillight assembly, and twist it clockwise to lock it into place.

  • Pull the carpeting upward, guiding the fastener(s) into the hole(s) in the truck's frame. Tighten the screw(s) into the fastener(s), using a flat-head screwdriver, to lock the carpeting into place.

  • Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the taillight on the other side of the Accord, if needed.

  • Close the Accord's trunk.

Accord Crosstour Taillight Replacement

  • Open the rear hatch of the Accord Crosstour and locate the two circular screw covers on the inner part of the taillight assembly. Pry these screw covers off, using a flat-head screwdriver.

  • Remove the two taillight assembly-retaining screws, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the taillight assembly from the Accord.

  • Remove and replace the taillight following Steps 3 through 5 of the section titled "Accord Sedan and Coupe Taillight Replacement."

  • Set the taillight assembly back onto the rear of the Accord and tighten the two taillight assembly-retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Press the screw covers back in place over the taillight assembly retaining screws.

  • Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for the taillight on the other side of the Accord Crosstour, if needed.

  • Close the Crosstour's rear hatch.
