How to Reset the Check Engine Light on a 2007 Kia Optima

Kia introduced the Optima in 2001 in the United States. The 2007 Kia Optima was equipped with one of two different engines choices: a 2.4-liter, in-line four-cylinder, and a 2.7-liter V-6. The 2007 Optima was available in the EX and LX packages, with both engines offered in each trim level. Resetting the "Check Engine" light on the 2007 Optima takes little to no mechanical knowledge. Make sure you have the proper repairs completed on the vehicle prior to resetting the "Check Engine" light.

Things You'll Need

  • OBD-II scan tool
  • Open the driver's door of the vehicle and insert the OBD-II scanner plug into the plug port, under the dash. The OBD-II plug port has an identical shape with the scanner plug end.

  • Turn the ignition key to the "II" or accessories position. Press the "Power" button on the scanner.

  • Press the "Read" button on the scanner, or choose the "Read diagnostic codes" selection using the "Up" or "Down" arrows on the keypad. Allow the scanner to complete its communication with the vehicle.

  • Press the "Erase" button or use the "Up" or "Down" arrows to choose "Erase diagnostic codes" option. The screen should now prompt you whether you are sure to erase the diagnostic code(s).
