How to Change the Gauge Lights in a Trailblazer

The Chevrolet TrailBlazer comes equipped with several gauges in its instrument cluster; although not necessary for operating your vehicle, these gauges are important for your safety. The gauge lights illuminate the gauges in the instrument cluster, allowing you to see your TrailBlazer's speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and odometer. In order to replace the gauge lights -- also referred to as instrument cluster lights -- you will need to remove the instrument cluster from the vehicle. You can replace the gauge lights in just under 15 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement gauge light bulbs
  • Open the TrailBlazer's hood and disconnect the battery, using a socket wrench.

  • Remove the kick panel from the driver's side of the vehicle by using a socket wrench to remove the four 7-mm bolts that secure it.

  • Remove the six screws from around the dash bezel, using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Remove the four 7-mm bolts holding the instrument cluster to the vehicle. Disconnect the wiring harness from the rear of the cluster and remove it from the TrailBlazer.

  • Unlatch the tabs around the edge of the cluster. Lift off the top section of the cluster.

  • Pull any burnt-out bulbs straight out of their sockets. Install replacement bulbs by pushing them into the socket on the cluster.

  • Reassemble the cluster and close the latches.

  • Place the cluster back into the TrailBlazer. Reconnect the wiring harness and reattach the four bolts.

  • Reattach the dash bezel and its six screws. Reattach the driver's side kick panel and its four bolts. Reconnect the battery and close the hood.
