How to Install a Lexus RX 300 Side Mirror

The side mirrors allow the driver to see a certain distance alongside of and next to the vehicle. Checking the mirrors while driving instead of constantly turning around lets the driver keep his or her eyes forward and in the direction the vehicle is traveling. Side mirrors of some vehicles are adjusted manually while the mirrors on others are electronically controlled. Be sure to note which type is installed on your vehicle to prevent any electrical damage when installing.

Things You'll Need

  • Set of open-end wrenches
  • Painter's tape
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Side mirror
  • Adhesive
  • Loosen the bolt on the negative battery cable using an open-end wrench, and remove the cable from the battery post.

  • Wrap the connector of the negative battery cable with painter's tape. The tape prevents electricity from flowing to the vehicle if the cable accidentally makes contact with the battery post.

  • Press the six clips holding the window control panel to the door using a flat-head screwdriver. The clips are located as follows: two on the left side, two on the right side, one on top and one on the bottom. After pressing each clip, lift that portion of the control panel until it can be gently removed.

  • Unplug the electrical connector from the bottom of the window control panel and remove it.

  • Press the two clips holding the inside cover of the side mirror in place using a flat-head screwdriver. There is one clip at the top and one clip at the bottom. When the clips are pressed, remove the cover.

  • Remove the inside door handle by pressing the hooks to disengage them using a flat-head screwdriver. One hook is located on the left side of the door handle and the other hook is located on the right side.

  • Remove the trim panel from the door by unfastening the screw above the pull handle using a flat-head screwdriver, then press the hooks to disengage them from the door. The hooks are located on the top and bottom of the trim panel, next to the removed screw. Press the hooks located around the perimeter of the panel and remove it. The bolts holding the mirror in place are now exposed.

  • Detach the side mirror by loosening the three bolts using an open-end wrench. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the mirror.

  • Place the new side mirror into position and tighten the bolts using an open-end wrench.

  • Follow the above steps in reverse order to replace the components.
