The wheel hubs on your Ford F350 4-by-4 house the wheel bearings which help your wheels to spin. If the hubs become damaged, they can cause your wheel bearings to collapse, affecting the steering and stability of your wheels. When this occurs you need to remove the damaged wheel hub and replace it with a new one. The work can be tricky and will take around two hours to complete.
Use a lug wrench to loosen the lug bolts attached to the wheel which contains the damaged wheel hub. Place the car jack next to the wheel and raise your Ford F350 up off the ground. Place a jack stand underneath the frame of the truck for added support.
Remove the lug bolts using the lug wrench and lift the wheel away from the axle. Place the wheel in a safe area for reattachment later.
Take the mounting bolts from the back of the brake caliper with a socket wrench and lift the caliper out of its bracket. Place a wire hanger through the spring coil of the caliper to prevent you from suspending it by the brake line.
Remove the retaining nut from the rear of the rotor with your wrench and slide the rotor off the spindle. Loosen and remove the mounting bolts which fix the wheel hub in place. You will find the bolts on the barrel of the hub. Remove the bolts and pull the wheel hub from the wheel assembly.
Insert the new wheel hub and secure in place by attaching the bolts to the barrel. Follow the removal steps in reverse to reattach the rotor, brake caliper and wheel to the Ford F350. Repeat the process on any other damaged wheel hubs.
