When the CV joint on the Kia Sephia goes bad, the automobile will sit where it is. The CV joints on the car are part of the front-wheel drive system. They transfer the power from the transaxle or transmission and put the Sephia in motion. Repairing the CV joint can be quite expensive in a repair shop. This is a project you can complete in your driveway in three or four hours.
Place the wheel chocks behind the rear wheels of the Sephia. Raise the front of the car on the side that needs the work using the automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the vehicle and raise it to the frame. Remove the lug nuts with the lug wrench and take the wheel off the Sephia. Remove the splash shield from the wheel well, if one exists, using a screwdriver to remove the screws. Drain the fluid from the transmission by opening the plug with a wrench.
Remove the hub lock nut using a wrench. You may have to raise the staked portion of the nut using the mallet and screwdriver to tap it up. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the lower control arm using a wrench. Remove the cotter pin from the tie rod end using a pair of pliers. Remove the castellated nut using a wrench. Tap the tie rod end with the rubber mallet to separate it from the wheel knuckle. Remove the pinch bolt from the lower ball joint with a wrench.
Separate the ball joint from the control arm using a pry bar. Pull the CV joint from the transmission using the pry bar to pry it away. Push the outer portion of the CV joint through the wheel hub and down from the Sephia. Put the new CV joint in place of the old one and push it into the transmission. Insert the front end of the shaft through the wheel hub. Install the ball joint to the wheel knuckle and tighten the pinch bolt with a wrench.
Insert the tie rod end to the wheel knuckle and tighten the castellated nut with a wrench. Install a new cotter pin and spread it open with the pliers. Install the hub nut and tighten it with a wrench. Connect the stabilizer link to the control arm. Install the splash shield with a screwdriver, if one exists. Install the wheel on the Sephia and tighten the lug nuts with a lug wrench. Remove the jack stand from under the Sephia and lower the vehicle to the ground. Add fresh fluid to the transmission.
