The Airbag Installation Procedure for an Oldsmobile

The airbags in your Oldsmobile are designed to protect you from serious injuries during a crash. Once they have deployed, they should be replaced for safety. You can do this yourself.

Deactivate System

  • You will need to open the hood of your Oldsmobile and disconnect the negative cable from your battery. This will prevent the new airbag from deploying during installation. You also will need to pull the airbag fuse out of its slot in the fuse panel inside your car's dash. This will deactivate the airbag system safely.

Driver's Side Airbag

  • Use a screwdriver to remove the panels of the steering column to access the driver side airbag. Unscrew it from inside the column behind the steering wheel. Pull the old bag out and unplug it from the wiring harness inside the column. You can now replace it with a new airbag. Then replace the steering column panels.

Passenger Side Airbag

  • Open and remove the glove box door by unhooking it from inside the glove box. Unscrew the entire glove box and pull it out of the dash to get to the passenger airbag. Unscrew it and pull it out. Unplug it as well from the wiring harness. Attach the new airbag, and replace the glove box and door.

Reactivate System

  • Now reinsert the airbag fuse into the fuse panel slot. Then reconnect the negative cable back to the battery.
