The Spark Plug Specifications for a 2001 Honda Accord EX

A 2.4-liter, inline four-cylinder engine was standard with the 2001 Honda Accord EX, but a 3.5-liter V-6 engine was also available. Both engines require replacement of the spark plugs every 105,000 miles.

Type

  • There are four main types of spark plugs: copper, platinum, double platinum and iridium. The 2001 Honda Accord EX requires platinum-tipped spark plugs. Failure to use the proper spark plugs can lead to a poorly running engine or even engine damage.

Gap

  • The spark plug gap is the space between the center electrode and the ground electrode at the base of the spark plug. The proper gap for the 2001 Accord EX is 0.039 to 0.043 inches. If any plug's gap is too narrow or wide, do not attempt to adjust it. Return it for a new one.

Torque

  • The spark plug is inserted into the Accord's aluminum cylinder head, so proper torque is required to keep the plug in place but not strip the cylinder head. The proper spark plug torque in the 2001 Accord EX is 13 foot-pounds.
