Air Door Actuator Installation

The air door actuator is designed for vehicles that have automatic temperature control. The air door actuator also controls the door movement on command. There are several reasons why its necessary to replace the air door actuator such as, experiencing problems with changing the heat and air conditioning temperatures in a vehicle. If problems are occurring with the air door actuator, it's possible to complete the repair quite easily with a few tools found around the house.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket and ratchet
  • Flat blade screwdriver
  • Push in the sides of the glove compartment to release it from its position and pull it down. Look up to see the air door actuator which is on the left side. It may be white in color and in a box form. An electronic connection or harness is attached to the actuator. Release the connection by pressing on the tap and then pull the connector away from the actuator.

  • Unscrew all bolts that are securing the air door actuator in place using a socket and ratchet. Once released, remove the bolts. Then use a flat blade screwdriver to lift up the air door actuator and pull it out.

  • Replace the air door actuator with the new air door actuator. Test the new actuator to see if it is working properly by turning on the key and then turning the temperature control knob. You will see the little post or knob on the actuator turn which will mean that it's working fine. Reassemble the bolt, the connector and the glove compartment and the task is complete.
