The fuses in your Ford Ranger are like the gatekeepers of the electrical circuits. The fuses help regulate the electricity to prevent circuit overloads, fires or other damage. If a fuse blows, it can short out the circuit or leave it vulnerable. You should change a fuse right away if it fails. Buy a variety pack of fuses at an auto parts store to ensure that you have additional fuses in the event of a failure.
Open the driver-side door of your Ranger. Use a flashlight to locate the fuse panel beneath the dash area on the driver side of the truck, just inside the door. The fuse panel door will be labeled "FUSES" or something similar.
Grasp the handle of the fuse panel cover and pull it straight off the panel. Set the cover aside in a safe place.
Remove the rubber-tipped fuse puller from the panel. The fuse puller looks a little bit like a pair of tweezers with rubber tips.
Grasp the top of the fuse you want to change with the fuse puller. Pull the fuse straight out of the panel. Discard the old fuse.
Press the new fuse into place. If the empty slot is difficult to get to, use the fuse puller to help you get it into place. Press it in until it stops, so it is properly seated in the fuse panel.
