How Can I Tell If My Gauge Cluster Is No Good on a 2000 Chevy Silverado?

If the gauge cluster on your 2000 Chevrolet Silverado is malfunctioning, there cold be three possible problems: the electrical harness is loose, the fuse is blown, or the gauge cluster itself has become faulty. If the harness and the fuse are not the problem, you will need to purchase and install a replacement gauge cluster as it is very dangerous to drive your Silverado without a functioning gauge cluster.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Turn the Silverado's engine off and open the truck's hood. Locate the fuse panel in the upper right corner of the engine compartment.

  • Remove the cover panel from the fuse panel and locate the fuse labeled "Radio." This is the fuse for the radio and the gauge cluster. If the fuse is blown out or broken, you will need to replace it with a new 10A fuse. Reattach the cover to the fuse panel and close the hood.

  • Remove the two securing screws from the upper dash panel above the gauge cluster. Pull the panel off.

  • Uninstall the gauge cluster's four corner screws with a Phillips screwdriver and pull the cluster out of the truck.

  • Reach behind the cluster and pull on its wiring harness. If it comes loose, reinstall the harness to the cluster.

  • Test the cluster by turning on the Silverado's engine. If the cluster is still not functioning, the cluster is bad and you will need to install a new gauge cluster.
