How Is the Washer Pump Replaced on a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country Minivan?

The 2002 Chrysler Town and Country minivan has two washer pumps: One for the front windshield and one for the rear window. Replacing either pump is easy. This information also applies to other model years and Dodge minivans.

Location and Access

  • The pumps are attached to the bottom of the washer fluid tank. The tank is located forward of the passenger side front wheel. The pumps are accessible from under the vehicle, but for easier access the tire, fender splash shield and tank can be removed.

Pump Replacement

  • If you are removing the fluid tank, disconnect all wires and tubing first. If you are not removing the tank, just remove the connector and tube for the pump you are replacing. Then, pull the pump off the tank. Attach the new pump, replace the tank if necessary and reconnect the electrical and tubing as required.

Safety Considerations

  • Follow all safety precautions for working on vehicles. If the reservoir tank is not empty, windshield washing fluid will drain out when the tubing is removed from the pump.

Quick Fix

  • If the pump for the front windshield has stopped working, you can switch the hoses at the pumps. This allows you to use the dash button for the rear wash to spray fluid on the front window.
