How to Adjust Corvette Hood

The hood alignment on a Corvette not only affects the overall appearance of the sports car, but also directly relates to the aerodynamics of the car at high speeds. The importance of proper hood alignment at high speeds can lead to instability in the car, making it difficult, if not impossible to control. If your Corvette hood is out of alignment, you also risk damaging the paint on the hood and surrounding body panels when the hood closes. If your Corvette hood is out of alignment, and you're mechanically inclined, you can adjust it quickly.

Things You'll Need

  • Able-bodied helper
  • Socket set
  • Note where the hood is out of alignment. Open the Corvette's hood by hand. Have your helper grab and support the hood on the opposite side from you.

  • Loosen the bolts that hold your side of the hood to the hood hinges using the socket set. Adjust the hood as necessary based on how it was out of adjustment by pulling or pushing on it with your helper's assistance. Tighten the bolts with the socket set.

  • Slowly lower the hood into the closed position and note how it aligns with the other body panels. If further adjustments are necessary, repeat step two. The need to perform the adjustments on the opposite hood-to-hinge connection may also arise.

  • Close the hood after properly adjusting the hood.
