How to Change a Dome Lamp in a Lexus

The dome lamp in Lexus vehicles is designed to illuminate the interior of the vehicle to increase visibility inside the cabin. The dome lamp automatically illuminates when the unlock button is pressed on the keyless entry remote and when any of the vehicle's doors is opened. The dome lamp can also be switched on manually. When the dome lamp bulb burns out, the dome lamp will not illuminate in any of these circumstances. Replacement dome lamp bulbs are available from auto parts and hardware stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Small flat-head screwdriver
  • Place the vehicle's gear selector in the "P" position or first gear (manual transmission). Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake.

  • Locate the dome lamp housing in the center of the roof panel. Insert a small, flat-head screwdriver between the translucent dome lamp bulb cover and the dome lamp housing. Gently pry the dome lamp cover away from the dome lamp housing until it pops off.

  • Grip the dome lamp bulb between your thumb and index finger. Pull it directly out of its receptacle. No twisting or rotating is required.

  • Install a new dome lamp bulb and replace the dome lamp bulb cover. Open the driver's door and verify that the dome lamp illuminates.
