How to Install a Mirror on an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Having a missing or broken outside rearview mirror is not only a safety issue, but it is also against the law. The Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was manufactured with mirrors on both sides, so having the passenger side mirror broken means not having all of your safety equipment. The mirrors on the Oldsmobile don't have a history of breakage. However, they do have a plastic cover which will get brittle with time and break.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdrivers
  • Crescent Wrench
  • New mirror

Removal and installation

  • Go to any auto-parts store and request a new mirror for the specific year of your car. Make sure to specify whether you have power mirrors or not.

  • Facing the inside of the door, pry off the pressboard door panel by taking a flathead screwdriver around the edges and gently pulling the retaining clips out of the holes in the door frame.

  • Pry off the triangular cover of the mirror support panel located at the top front of the door frame with the flathead screw driver. There will be small slots around the side of the cover to put the screwdriver into, pushing in the plastic clips. Don't push too hard or they will snap off.

  • Disconnect the wire harness, a group of wires in a white plastic connection piece, located under the cover on models with power mirrors by simply pulling it apart at the connection point. If the car has power mirrors the adjustment controls will be on the handle, if not, the controls will be on the mirror mount cover.

  • Remove the three nuts using a wrench located on the mirror mount, under where the cover was.

  • Place the new mirror unit in the same position that the old one was in and tighten it down with the same three nuts using a wrench.

  • Reconnect the wire harness on models with powered mirrors.

  • Snap the mirror reinforcement panel back into place.

  • Install the door panel.
