Suzuki Forenza Engine Removal

Compared with removing and replacing engines in some other cars, the removal of the Suzuki Forenza's engine is considerably easier. The front-wheel-drive layout ensures that there is room to maneuver in the engine compartment to disconnect hoses and mounting bolts, while the engine's light weight virtually ensures that handling the removed engine will be a snap.

Things You'll Need

  • Automotive hand tools
  • Engine hoist

Disconnect Parts Attached to the Engine

  • Remove the hood from the car, then remove the battery, air box, black plastic engine cover and fluid reservoirs.

  • Drain the engine coolant system and remove the upper and lower radiator hose, then disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body and the exhaust manifold from the engine block. There is an aluminum cover over the exhaust manifold --remove it to access the exhaust manifold bolts. The transmission is situated on the driver's side of the car. Drain the transmission fluid by unbolting the transmission pan, then unbolt the transmission from the engine.

  • Remove the electrical components on the engine such as the throttle position sensor, computer harness and remaining vacuum hoses.

Remove the Engine From the Car

  • Unbolt the engine mounts where they connect with the car's subframe, taking care not to damage the spongy shock mounts found there.

  • Hook the engine hoist onto the round tab mounted to the engine block. This is the tab which the factory placed on the engine when it was installed at the factory.

  • Carefully raise the engine hoist, taking care to check constantly for hung up parts, wires and hoses which you might have missed earlier. The engine will have to be shifted slightly toward the passenger side to clear the transmission. When the engine has cleared the core support, pull the engine hoist away from the car, then mount the engine to an engine stand if necessary.
