How to Change the Ball Joints on a 1995 Nissan Pickup

The ball joints on your 1995 Nissan pickup are necessary for steering the truck. A faulty ball joint will make it difficult to steer the vehicle. In many cases, you will be not be able to steer your Nissan pickup at all. To access the ball joint, you will need to raise up the truck and remove several components of the control arm connecting the wheel to the truck.

Things You'll Need

  • Car jack
  • Lug wrench
  • Socket wrench
  • Use a car jack to lift the Nissan pickup three feet off the ground. Remove the wheel nuts with a lug wrench and remove the tire from the truck.

  • Disconnect the brake caliper's electrical connection and move it out of the way.

  • Pull off the cotter pin and remove the securing nut from the ball joint. This will allow access to the ball joint itself.

  • Remove the four securing bolts from the ball joint and pull it off of the Nissan's control arm. Lift the ball joint off the control arm.

  • Install a replacement ball joint and secure it by reinstalling the four securing bolts, the cotter pin, and the securing nut with a socket wrench. Reconnect the brake caliper's electrical connection. Place the tire back onto the truck and lower the truck.
