How to Mix Dolphin Glaze

Dolphin Glaze is a brushable and pourable polyester putty that is used in auto body repair to fix small imperfections in steel, aluminum and painted surfaces prior to painting. Although product instructions indicate that the exact mixing ratios are not critical to the usability of Dolphin Glaze, the gel time may be affected by adding either too much or too little of the polyester putty hardener. Once mixed, the Dolphin Glaze will last for approximately four minutes and 30 seconds at 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Things You'll Need

  • U-POL hardener for polyester putty
  • Flat mixing board
  • Plastic or rubber spatula
  • Place the Dolphin Glaze polyester putty and the polyester putty hardener onto a flat, nonporous mixing board in a 50:1 ratio of putty to hardener. The tube of hardener comes equipped with a measuring device to help users mix the appropriate quantity of hardener into the putty.

  • Mix with a plastic or rubber spreader until a thick liquid forms.

  • Apply the prepared Dolphin Glaze as necessary. Dolphin Glaze recommends applying the putty in small quantities so a thin layer forms on the repaired surface.

  • Allow Dolphin Glaze to dry for approximately 20 minutes at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Once dry, the glaze can be sanded to create a smooth surface for painting.
