How to Replace My Chevy Radio Light

The radio on your Chevrolet vehicle contains several lights that help you see the radio controls in a darkened environment. If the lights go out, replace them as soon as you can. To replace these lights, which sit at the front of the radio, you must pull out the radio and pop out the radio controls to gain access to the lights. Use 194-type bulbs for the radio lights on your Chevy radio.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Slotted screwdriver
  • Clean cloth
  • 194-type bulbs
  • Lift up the hood of your Chevy, and disconnect the Chevy's battery by using a socket wrench to remove the negative cable.

  • Remove the four screws from the center dash trim with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull off the center dash trim.

  • Remove the two screws securing the radio to the Chevy using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Insert a slotted screwdriver behind the radio, and pry it out. Unplug the radio's wiring connector.

  • Pop off the controls from the radio using a slotted screwdriver. Pull the lightbulbs behind the controls straight out of their sockets. Hold the replacement bulbs with a clean cloth when installing them; contact with skin can damage these bulbs.

  • Reattach the controls, and reconnect the wiring connector. Place the radio back into the Chevy, and reinstall its two retaining screws.

  • Reattach the dash trim and its four screws. Reconnect the Chevy's battery, and close the vehicle's hood.
