The Climate Control Panel Won't Work in My Ford Excursion

The climate control panel, or climate control unit, on your Ford Excursion is responsible for switching your vehicle's heating to air conditioning and vice-versa. The unit is mounted directly behind the heating and air controllers on your Excursion on the center dash console. Purchase your replacement climate control unit from either your Ford dealer or an auto parts store. It takes approximately 2 hours to completely change out the climate control unit in your Excursion.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Screwdriver
  • New climate control unit
  • Raise your Excursion's hood and remove the negative battery cable.

  • Pry off the trim pieces from around the climate control switches with your flat-head screwdriver. The trim is fastened by small rivets that will pop out as you pry them out of the plastic fasteners.

  • Remove the four bolts that hold the climate control unit to the dashboard, using your socket set. Pull the climate control unit forward and out of the dash.

  • Pinch the two tabs on each side of the plastic wiring harness on the back of the unit. Pull out the wiring harness.

  • Plug the wiring harness into the back of your new climate control unit and then gently push the climate control unit back into the dashboard cavity.

  • Replace the four retaining bolts that hold the unit to the dash. Replace the trim piece and reconnect the negative battery cable.
