The headliner board is the roof of your car. It is a flexible board that is covered with light padding and fabric. It doesn't take much for a hole or dent to happen in the board. Another part of the board that becomes damaged is the covering. It is a very thin fabric that can become worn and tear very easily. It can also become stretched and sag over time. Repairing the fabric does not have to be done by a professional. It will only take an hour or two to get the job done yourself.
Remove the pieces that secure the headliner in place. Pull out any plastic pieces that are visible on the ceiling of the car. Loosen and remove the screws that are now exposed from under those plastic pieces by turning them counterclockwise with a screwdriver.
Detach all pieces that are connected to the headliner of your car. Remove the plastic pieces and screws of the visors, upper seatbelt attachments, and dome light. Pull these pieces free from the headliner of your car and put them in a safe place.
Detach the side trim pieces from the headline of your car. Unhook the clips that hold these pieces in place. The clips will either be metal or plastic depending on the model of your car. Loosen and remove any screws holding the trim in place by turning them counterclockwise with a screwdriver.
Lower the headliner board and coverings from the ceiling of your car. It should fall out of place once the trim has been removed. Remove the headliner and its coverings from the automobile.
Apply the new fabric to the new headliner board. Spray the surface of the bottom of the headliner with spray adhesive. Lay the new fabric on the headliner over the spray adhesive. Fold the fabric in half. Place the middle of the fabric on the middle of the headliner board. Unfold the fabric. Spread the fabric over the board while smoothing any wrinkles with your hands. Spray the perimeter of the back of the board. Wrap the fabric around the back of the board adhering it to the glue. Let the glue dry for at least 24 hours.
Trim off any excess fabric with a pair of scissors. There should be some fabric on the back of the board around the perimeter but not so much that it will interfere with the re-installation on the ceiling of the car.
Install the new headliner by putting it in the car and pushing it upward to the ceiling. Starting with the trim, reinstall all of the car's pieces by reversing the steps that you took for their removal.
