Your 1997 Ford 350, or F-350 pickup truck came with a number of different safety features. One safety feature that was included with your truck, was the neutral safety switch. The neutral safety switch is an electrical sensor, that prevents your truck from starting in any gear other than neutral or park. However, there may come a time when you want to be able to bypass the neutral safety switch.
Pop the hood on your F-350. Use your socket set to remove both the negative and positive cables from your battery. It is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
Locate the neutral safety switch at the bottom rear of the transmission. You may have to jack up your rear end and set jack stands -- if you do not have enough clearance to slide under. Unplug the wiring plug harness from the back of the neutral safety switch.
Use your wire strippers to cut to lengths of electrical wiring cable. The lengths should be at least ten feet. Also strip off about an inch of the rubber wire insulation from the end of each wire.
Attach the ends of each wire to the two terminals on the doorbell switch. Affix the switch to your dashboard, using either Velcro strips, or some other kind of adhesive.
Run one of the wires to your starter's solenoid terminal; and attach it under the terminal clamp. Loosen and tighten the clamp with your socket set.
Run the other wire from the end of the doorbell switch, to your positive battery terminal. Pass the wire through the passenger firewall to do this.
Attach both your battery cables. Turn on your ignition -- and push the switch in -- to bypass the neutral safety switch.
